Dear Families,

Welcome to 3rd Grade! I am excited to be your child’s 3rd grade teacher! My goal is to provide the best education possible for your child and prepare them to be successful individuals in life! I need your help to achieve this goal. A good learning experience is built upon cooperative effort between parent, child, and the teacher. My expectations for conduct and academic growth are high. With your participation, we can look forward to a productive, creative, and fun year together!

Let me introduce myself! My name is Desirae McKenna-Smith and I absolutely love teaching 3rd grade! This is my 19th year as an elementary teacher in San Diego and my 17th year teaching at Darnall Charter School. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies, Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, and Masters of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from San Diego State University. Outside of Darnall, I'm busy being a mom! I have two boys and my husband and I love spending time with them!

I look forward to getting to know you! Working with your child is a privilege and I am looking forward to working together to make this year a wonderful experience.
