ALL ABOUT ME
My name is Janet Burton (formerly Styres). I have been a teacher here at Darnall Charter School for the past 22 years, mostly teaching 2nd and now 4th grade. In the past I have also taught Kindergarten, 1st and 3rd grade. Interestingly, I did my student teaching at Darnall Charter in 1996 where I have been teaching ever since. My biggest hope is to inspire my students to be curious learners and independent thinkers, while discovering their passions. I enjoy family time and living out in the Country Estates of Ramona with my 13 year old son Christian and my 10 year old dog Peace.
Things I love: being a mom, teaching and learning, reading in my hammock, trying out new restaurants, hiking in the mountains, swimming, biking and enjoying the beach.
MY PATH TO COLLEGE
My first educational experience was at Holy Angels Catholic School where I attended Kindergarten until 8th grade. My reason for becoming an educator was my first grade teacher Mrs. Williams. Her dedication and love for her students inspired me to become the teacher I am today!
After graduating from Temple City High School, I went to SDSU and received my Bachelor's of Liberal Arts Degree and Multiple Subject Teaching Credentials. In 2007 I received my Master's in Education with a specialization in Teacher Leadership from National University. Later that same year, I received my National Board Certification with an emphasis in teaching English as a New Language.
